The Future Headquarters Community, designed by ZUP, is a unique project that combines office and residential spaces. Inspired by the integration of modern city impressions and the local culture of World Heritage, this design aims to create a harmonious environment that reflects the essence of Hangzhou, China.
The spatial frame of high-rise buildings surrounding the Central Park is an analog of mountains surrounding the West Lake, a famous landmark in Hangzhou. The water flow connecting core public spaces serves as a metaphor for the wave of the China Grand Canal. The city and landscape are seamlessly integrated, creating a living and working environment that feels like being in a park or on the waterfront.
Hangzhou is a leading city in China's digital economy, and the CBD area requires new spaces to attract enterprises and talents. The Future Headquarters Community is the first headquarters community in Zhejiang Province, offering an open and inclusive industrial ecology that attracts both leading enterprises and start-ups for common development and communication.
The design features vertical multi-level public spaces with high-quality landscapes that link buildings and enhance interaction between people. This stimulates innovation vitality and fosters a collaborative atmosphere. The project aims to meet the needs of different parties involved, including talent seeking high-quality spaces, headquarters enterprises looking to develop industrial ecology, and the government aiming to improve the city's image.
The Future Headquarters Community project started in January 2019 and is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Extensive research was conducted on the surrounding areas of the main city center, as well as the development rules of global headquarters and the ratio of industrial residential functions. This research helped clarify the development direction of the innovation headquarters community and ensure that the spatial form aligns with the land value and the needs of headquarters and talents.
The design team, led by Sang Wanchen, overcame various challenges to meet the diverse needs of all parties involved. By following urban design guidelines and providing whole-process consultation, the project ensures overall implementation despite the significant initial investment.
The Future Headquarters Community is a testament to the vision and creativity of ZUP. It has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the City Planning and Urban Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is bestowed upon outstanding designs that demonstrate resourcefulness and contribute to quality of life improvements.
